Arsenal About to Complete Alexandre Lacazette Signing
Jean-Michel Aulas, the Lyon president, has confirmed that Alexandre Lacazette’s transfer to Arsenal should be finalised this week.
Arsenal’s initial bid of £39 million was rejected in June but since then the clubs have made significant progress in a talks.
Aulas has confirmed that the deal is worth up to £43.8 million. As a result, it has the potential to be significantly higher than the club-record of £42.5 million that Arsenal paid for Mesut Ozil four years ago.
Talking to Le Progres Aulas said, “Alexandre Lacazette's transfer to Arsenal could be actioned within the next day or two. The figure reported by the English media of around €67m (including €12m in add-ons) is impossible and not realistic. Arsenal's first offer was around €45m, the transfer will be concluded in the range of €45m to €50m. It constitutes, without doubt, a record transfer fee for Arsenal and for Lyon of course!”
Speaking in June Lacazette said that he is only interested in moving to a club that is playing in Europe’s top competition, but it would seem that he has changed his mind.
He had verbally agreed to join Atletico Madrid this summer but the move was abandoned after the Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed that Atletico is banned from signing new players during this transfer window.
Last season Lacazette scored 37 goals in 45 games, more than the combined total of Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Lucas Perez.
