Sweden vs Italy Preview and Prediction: Draw 1-1 at 5/1
Sweden and Italy will play the first leg of their World Cup qualification play-off at the Friends Arena on Friday, 10th November.
The teams last placed in June 2016 and Italy won 1 – 0. Before that they played in November 2009 and Italy also won that game 1 – 0.
Sweden finished second in qualifying Group A with 19 points having won six games, drawn one and lost three. In the last round of games last month they lost 2 – 0 to the Netherlands and defeated Luxembourg 8 – 0. Before that they defeated Belarus 0 – 4.
Italy finished second in qualifying Group G with 23 points having won seven games, drawn two and lost one. Last month they defeated Albania 0 -1 and drew 1 – 1 with FYR Macedonia. Before that they defeated Israel 1 – 0 and lost 3 – 0 to Spain.
Sweden haven’t defeated Italy since 1998 but it was the last game they played on home soil. They will be hoping for a repeat of that result in this game but given Italy’s experience and form, they will have their work cut out.
A 1 – 1 draw is the most likely outcome with Paddy Power and Boyle Sports offering odds of 5/1 and 9/2 respectively.
Paddy Power Odds: 21/10 Sweden to Win, 21/10 for a Draw and 29/20 Italy to Win
Boyle Sports: 23/10 Sweden to Win, 2/1 for a Draw and 11/8 Italy to Win
