Northern Ireland vs Switzerland Preview and Prediction: Draw 1-1 at 5/1
Northern Ireland and Switzerland will play in the World Cup qualification play-offs at the Windsor Park Stadium on Thursday, 9th November.
The teams have only played once before, a friendly match in August 2004 and it ended in a goalless draw.
Northern Ireland finished second in qualifying Group C with 19 points having won six games, drawn one and lost three. Most recently they lost 1 – 0 to Norway and before that they lost 3 – 1 to Germany. However, in September they enjoyed victories over the Czech Republic and San Marino.
Switzerland finished second in qualifying Group B with 27 points having won nine games and lost one. Most recently they lost 2 – 0 to Portugal. However, before that they defeated Hungary, Latvia, Andorra and the Faroe Islands.
Both teams have everything to play for and will be determined to make the later stages of the tournament. Switzerland were hugely impressive in their group games and will be feeling confident. Northern Ireland will know that they are the underdogs but will be boosted by a number of good performances in recent months and are sure to give it everything they have.
A 1 – 1 draw is the most likely outcome with Paddy Power and Boyle Sports both offering odds of 5/1.
