Wales vs Republic of Ireland Preview and Prediction: Wales to Win 1-0 at 5/1
Wales and the Republic of Ireland will play their next World Cup qualifying game at the Cardiff City Stadium on Monday, 9th October.
The teams played the reverse fixture in March this year and the game ended in a goalless draw. Before that, they played in August 2013 and that game also ended in a goalless draw. However, the Republic of Ireland defeated Wales in 2011 while Wales hasn’t won a game against Ireland since 1992.
Wales are currently second in qualifying Group D with 17 points, 1 point below Serbia. Last week they defeated Georgia 0 – 1 and in September they defeated Moldova 0 – 2 and Wales 1 – 0.
The Republic of Ireland are third in qualifying Group D with 16 points, four points above Austria. Last week they defeated Moldova 2 – 0 while in September they lost 0 – 1 to Serbia and drew 1 – 1 with Georgia.
With so little between the teams in the table, this is sure to be an intense match. However, Wales has had better results than the Republic of Ireland and have the home advantage so the visitors will have their work cut out.
A 1 – 0 win for Wales is the most likely outcome with Paddy Power and Boyle Sports both offering odds of 5/1.
Paddy Power Odds: 6/5 Wales to Win, 9/4 for a Draw and 12/5 Republic of Ireland to Win
Boyle Sports Odds: 13/10 Wales to Win, 19/10 for a Draw and 5/2 Republic of Ireland to Win
