Mourinho Wants Two More Signings This Summer
Jose Mourinho, the Manchester United boss, has said that he is hoping to make two more signings this summer.
United have spent more than £100 million so far bringing defender Victor Lindelof and striker Romelu Lukaku to the team. However, in a news conference over the weekend Mourinho said that he wants to more players.
There have been rumours of moves for Ivan Perisic, Eric Dier and Nemanja Matic. Mourinho was reluctant to comment on Matic and there have been reports that the midfielder was left out of the Chelsea squad for their preseason tour of the Far East.
At the press conference Mourinho said, “I can't say any word about another player. [Matic] is a Chelsea player. It's difficult and a little bit same with [Real Madrid's Alvaro] Morata. Matic is a Chelsea player and I have to respect the player, the club and the club owner. We don't have our door closed.”
Inter Milan are refusing to accept less than €55 million for Perisic and Spurs seem likely to hold on to Dier after they sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50 million. However, Matic’s future is less clear, especially with Chelsea appearing likely to sign Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Furthermore, Mourinho said that negotiations with Real Madrid for Morata stopped as soon as an agreement was reached for Lukaku.
Mourinho summed up the situation best saying, “Everything is so difficult. I would not like to be in Ed Woodward's position in negotiations because it's really difficult. Maybe we don't get two, maybe we get one. We would like two more but at least one.”
