Real Madrid President Says Ronaldo is Unlikely to Leave
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has said that he expects Cristiano Ronaldo to stay with the team despite him being very “angry”.
Ronaldo has been summoned to a hearing due to take place next month over accusations of tax fraud. His representatives have denied the allegations and Ronaldo was reported to be so annoyed by his treatment that he was considering leaving the country.
It didn’t take long for the 32 year old to be linked with a return to Manchester United but Perez has significantly played down talk of a summer exit.
“He has a contract with Real Madrid and, when he stops playing at the Confederations Cup, we will talk. He's angry, that's for sure, because he is an honest person who fulfils his obligations. I have not talked to him but we are delighted that he is in Madrid. I think he will continue in Madrid.”
Perez went on to say that the team isn’t responsible for the players’ tax declarations but insisted that there has never been a “concealment”.
In the same interview Perez also discussed speculation linking the team with Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe and suggested that there may not be a transfer this summer. He said that is very rare for an 18 year old to play at Real Madrid and that he needs to be patient. However, he did call Mbappe a “very good player” and said that the team is certainly keeping an eye on him.
