It is understood that Virgil van Dijk is a key signing target for Liverpool and that the club are prepared to match Chelsea and Manchester City financially in order to secure his services.
Van Dijk, the Southampton captain, has shown himself to be one of the best central defenders in the Premier League since he moved from Celtic in September 2015 for £11.5 million.
Pep Guardiola has previously identified him as one of his priority targets as he looks to strengthen his defensive options but City are now worried about the price they may have to pay as Chelsea boss Antonio Conte and Liverpool are also interested.
Southampton are eager to hold on to Van Dijk and just last month club chairman Ralph Krueger said that the team is prepared to reject bids of up to £60 million in order to keep hold of the 25-year-old.
Now Jurgen Klopp has said that he is determined to bring him to Anfield are that Liverpool are prepared to spend a vast amount of money to do so. Furthermore, it has been reported that Van Dijk is impressed with Klopp’s personal involvement in the team’s efforts to sign him.
If Van Dijk were to join the Reds then he would be the latest of a number of Southampton players to move to Anfield in recent years joining the likes of Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane and Rickie Lambert.
