Manchester United Claim to Have Secured Romelu Lukaku
Manchester United has confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Everton for the transfer of Romelu Lukaku.
The deal is still subject to a medical and personal terms, but it is thought that United will be paying £75 million up-front and another £15 million in add-ons. Additionally, Wayne Rooney will be moving to Everton from United.
United have announced that they have secured Lukaku despite reports late on Friday night that Chelsea is prepared to match United’s offer.
It was also reported that Lukaku’s agent Mino Raiola wants him to move to United while Lukaku himself would prefer moving to Chelsea.
Nonetheless, Lukaku is already in Los Angeles and has been training with his potential United teammate Paul Pogba. He is now expected to have a United medical before they start their pre-season US tour.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is understood to be extremely frustrated at the prospect of missing out on Lukaku who had been his main target this summer. Lukaku was originally signed by Chelsea from Anderlecht for £18 million in August 2011.
Conte is known to want to sell Diego Costa and Atletico Madrid are interested in taking him back to Spain but it seems that he has missed the chance to sign his chosen replacement.
Meanwhile, Alvaro Morata is still at Real Madrid having had a number of offers from United rejected earlier in the summer but Chelsea is also interested in a potential deal.
