Cristiano Ronaldo Decides to Leave Real Madrid
Over the weekend reports emerged in Portugal that Cristiano Ronaldo has decided to leave Real Madrid.
The Portuguese press claimed that the striker is angry about the way he has been treated by Spanish tax authorities and that he has expressed a desire to leave the county. Prosecutors in Spain have accused the Real Madrid star of defrauding the authorities of €14.7 million in tax, an accusation that Ronaldo denies.
The reports say that Ronaldo has made an “irreversible” decision to leave the club and has told his teammates that he is leaving.
Ronaldo, who has won the Ballon d’Or four times, responded to the tax charges with a picture of himself ‘shushing’ the camera together with the caption “Sometimes the best answer it’s to be quiet”.
His management company, Gestifute, has said it is “clear” that he did not try to avoid taxes.
In November last year Ronaldo signed a new five-year contract with the team and said that he is ready to play until his forty-first birthday.
At the time Ronaldo said, “This is a special day for me, extending my links with this club, the club of my heart. Renewing for five years is very special and let it be clear that this is not the last contract.”
So far there has been no comment from Real Madrid but it is thought that Manchester United would be the most likely destination for Ronaldo if he is to leave. See Best Offers
